The Beginning

Our Story

We met in late 2017 while studying at the University of Ottawa, became fast friends, and started dating in January 2018. Everything since has happened in firsts, at departure gates, and in ballparks.

Our first trip togetherFebruary 2018

Chicago, just a month after we started dating. We saw Hamilton, and discovered a shared love of white wine in an airport lounge along the way. We have been finding excuses to get on a plane together ever since.

Rachel riding on Reid’s back in the woods near the cottage
Reid’s first time at the cottageMay 2018

Rachel brought Reid to her family’s cottage, where the tradition is to do very little: long conversations, board games after dinner, and no particular plans. It took seven years before he was trusted to participate in the family crossword.

Rachel’s first time in ArizonaFebruary 2019

Reid returned the favour with Arizona, where his family heads each year to get out of the winter cold: sunny walks, afternoons by the pool, and baseball. Rachel decided it was worth the trip—mostly for the baseball.

Software engineering degrees for both of us, at a ceremony the pandemic had delayed. By the time we put the gowns on, Rachel was already in law school and Reid was working in tech.

Getting Here

Travel & Stay

Flights and airports

Ottawa (YOW) is our closest airport, and it’s best served by Porter, followed by Air Canada, and then WestJet. If fares or schedules send you elsewhere, Montreal is a reasonable alternative: Trudeau (YUL) and the newer Montreal Metropolitan (YHU) both serve the city, and the train from Montreal to Ottawa takes about two hours.

WestJet discount for our guests

WestJet is giving our guests 5% off Econo and 10% off EconoFlex and Premium base fares, on travel within Canada and between Canada and the US.*

  • The discount covers travel between October 2 and October 18, 2026, booked to/from Ottawa.
  • It doesn’t apply to Ultra Basic or Business class fares.
Terms and conditions

Basic fare class is excluded from discount. Discount codes are valid for travel on the dates indicated above. Percentage discount is applied to base fare. Base fares are commissionable to Travel Agents. Taxes, fees and charges are extra. The base fare may be represented as Air Transportation Charges (excepting Other Air Transportation Charges) in the booking flow. Other air transportation charges, taxes, fees and charges are not discounted. Discount codes are intended for use by the event attendees and organizers only. Distribution to any outside third parties or unauthorized channel is prohibited. Discount can be used for a one-way or round-trip booking. Discount cannot be applied towards multi-city bookings. Only one discount code may be used per booking. Seasonal start and end dates may apply. No cash value. Discount only applies to flights marketed and operated wholly by WestJet, WestJet Encore, WestJet Link, and Delta flights marketed by WestJet via codeshare. It is not applicable when traveling with our other codeshare, interline or other airline partners. New bookings only. Offer is limited and subject to availability. No cash value. Non-refundable and non-transferable. Discount cannot be used towards the purchase of a Member Exclusive fare or the purchase of a WestJet Vacations package. Discount cannot be combined with any other discount codes or companion voucher bookings. WestJet dollars, Travel Bank and gift cards cannot be used as a form of payment. Any changes or cancellations to discount code bookings must be made by calling 1-888-937-8538. If the booking is changed or cancelled, the discount will no longer apply. Other restrictions may apply and are subject to change at any time. WestJet’s fares, schedules, and policies, and any and all equipment used in connection with the provision of the meetings and conventions travel services may be changed or terminated by WestJet at any time and for any reason, in each case without notice or liability. WestJet may terminate or reduce flights to any event city at any time and for any reason without notice or liability.

Where to stay

We don’t have a dedicated hotel block, but there are more than a dozen hotels within walking distance of both our venues. A few we’d suggest:

Parking

Free parking is available at the church as space permits. At the museum, parking is free for wedding guests.

Between the venues

Our two venues are about two kilometres apart—a 30-minute walk in good weather, or a short trip by bus, taxi, or rideshare. However you choose to travel, please plan to arrive at the museum for 5:00.

Getting home

We’ll be celebrating until 1:00 in the morning, so please give the trip home a thought before the day begins. If you plan to drink, please plan not to drive.

Good to Know

FAQ

What should we wear?
Formal—whatever that means to you.
What should we expect at the ceremony?
About 60 to 75 minutes, which leaves the afternoon free before we gather again at 5:00. It’s a Lutheran service with communion—everyone is welcome to come forward, whether to receive or simply for a blessing, and just as welcome to stay seated.
What happens between the ceremony and the cocktail hour?
There’s a couple of hours between the ceremony and the cocktail hour. The museum’s galleries are open in the meantime, and admission is waived for our guests arriving from the ceremony. You’re welcome to spend the time there—the museum closes to the public at 5:00, right as the Water Gallery opens to us.
Can we bring a guest or our children?
When you open your RSVP, you’ll find everyone we’ve invited in your party listed by name, along with a +1 where one is included.
Are you registered anywhere?
We aren’t—your presence is truly the gift. For anyone who would like to give something as well, we’re saving toward our honeymoon and our Interac e-Transfer address is gifts@rachelreid.ca.
When should we RSVP by?
By September 5, 2026—please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
